Emerging Therapies in Friedreich's Ataxia: A Review
نویسندگان
چکیده
Friedreich's ataxia (FRDA) is an inherited, neurodegenerative disease that typically presents in childhood and results progressive gait limb ataxia, with the extraneural features of hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, diabetes scoliosis. The genetic defect a deficiency frataxin protein, which important for mitochondrial function, especially brain heart. Drug development has approached FRDA through pathways addressing oxidative stress, dysfunction, protein DNA transcriptional deficiency, paving way first disease-modifying drugs FRDA.

Emerging therapies in Friedreich's ataxia.
Friedreich's ataxia (FRDA) is an inherited, progressive neurodegenerative disease that typically affects teenagers and young adults. Therapeutic strategies and disease insight have expanded rapidly over recent years, leading to hope for the FRDA population. There is currently no US FDA-approved treatment for FRDA, but advances in research of its pathogenesis have led to clinical trials of poten...
متن کاملDysarthria in Friedreichs Ataxia: A Perceptual Analysis
The aims of this study were to: (1) evaluate the perceptual speech dimensions, speech intelligibility and dys arthria severity of a group of individuals diagnosed with Friedreich’s ataxia (FRDA); (2) determine the presence of subgroups within FRDA dysarthria; (3) investigate the relationship between the speech outcome and the clinical factors of disease progression. The study included 38 indivi...
متن کاملEmerging Drug Therapies for Heart Failure
Heart failure is associated with high morbidity and mortality and is proving to be an economic burden in developing countries. A number of therapeutic agents are presently employed in heart failure; but they are not sufficient to control symptoms of heart failure. Moreover, the prevalence of chronic heart failure is progressively increasing and thus there is a continuing need to develop effecti...
متن کاملCurrent and emerging therapies in multiple sclerosis: a systematic review.
Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a potentially disabling chronic autoimmune neurological disease that mainly affects young adults. Our understanding of the pathophysiology of MS has significantly advanced in the past quarter of a century. This has led to the development of many disease-modifying therapies (DMTs) that prevent exacerbations and new lesions in patients with relapsing remitting MS (RRMS)...
متن کاملEmerging targeted therapies for melanoma treatment (Review)
Cutaneous melanoma is an aggressive cancer with a poor prognosis for patients with advanced disease. The identification of several key molecular pathways implicated in the pathogenesis of melanoma has led to the development of novel therapies for this devastating disease. In melanoma, both the Ras/Raf/MEK/ERK (MAPK) and the PI3K/AKT (AKT) signalling pathways are constitutively activated through...
